Who is Roger Kiška?
The Scandinavian Human Dignity Award is presented to a person or an organization which has made a special contribution to human rights, all of which derive from the inherent dignity of the human person and are essential for his free and full development. The Scandinavian Human Rights Committee has chosen to honour Mr Roger Kiska on behalf of the Alliance Defending Freedom for his promotion and encouraging of the effective exercising of the human rights and freedoms by granting him the Scandinavian Human Dignity Award 2012. The Award was granted to Mr Kiska at a ceremonious reception at the 28th of November in Uppsala, Sweden.
Roger Kiska is son of Jozef Kiška, in Winnipeg’s Slovak community well known activist and public figure. Joe Kiška, as he is known, served as the Honorary Consul of Slovakia in Winnipeg, from April 1994 to March 2012.
Roger Kiška was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he obtained a Bachelor degree in religion and philosophy from University of Manitoba and Masters in the same disciplines. At present he serves as a legal counsel with Alliance Defending Freedom. His base is in Vienna, Austria, where he specializes in international litigation with focus on European law. For the Alliance Defending Freedom he has developed a network of allied attorney allied attorneys in Europe, working together to litigate European cases that have a potential to impact Alliance Defending Freedom efforts in America.
Prior to joining Alliance Defending Freedom, Roger served as legal counsel at the European Centre for Law and Justice. After earning his J.D. at Ave Maria School of Law in Ann Arbour, Michigan, Roger began his legal career in the Slovak Republic as an attorney with the firm of former Slovak Prime Minister Jan Čarnogursky. He is admitted to the State Bar of Michigan and also passed the Solicitor’s Bar examinations for the United Kingdom. Roger is fluent in English and Slovak. He holds dual citizenship Canadian and Slovak.
